How to
Stop Snoring - An Introductory Guide

Provided your snoring is not
caused by a more serious health problem, there are several
things you can do to which might help you to stop snoring.
Stop snoring - lifestyle factors
It's a little known fact that snoring is often connected to
lifestyle factors, and so stopping snoring can be as simple
as altering you lifestyle. Leading a healthy life really can
help. For example, cutting down on your smoking and alcohol
consumption, as well as keeping a healthy diet and a normal
body weight can reduce or stop your snoring. Consult your
physician about these matters for more information on your
particular circumstances and you could find that you stop
snoring more or less over night.
Stop snoring - taking medication
Research has shown that taking sleeping pills and other medication
before you go to bed can actually increase the incidence of
snoring. Accordingly, you could consult you doctor to see
if you can take medication at an alternative time. Of course
this is not to be possible with sleeping pills, which by definition
must be taken prior to sleep. However, if your sleeping pills
are causing you to snore, then at the very least consult your
doctor about altering the prescription or changing the type
or brand of medication.
Stop snoring - immediate remedies
to try
The main point to make here is that stopping snoring can be
a trial and error process. There are a number of methods you
could try. If on particular method does not work to stop your
snoring then move onto another.
Try sleeping on your stomach rather than on your back. I have
found this process works with me. I am far more likely to
snore if I fall asleep on my back, and the same is true for
many sufferers.
You are also more likely to snore if you use several soft
pillows, so you may be able to stop snoring by using a single
pillow. Snoring can also be curbed with the use of an anti-snoring
pillow. These stop snoring pillows are available on the market
at little cost.
As snoring is often caused by nasal congestion, using a nasal
strip or inhaling steam before going to bed may also stop
your snoring.
You should also consult your dentist, who may be able to prescribe
an oral appliance to reduce snoring. These look much like
gum shield, and again may work to stop snoring at little cost.
There are many other remedies for this sleeping disorder,
depending on your particular condition, many of which are
detailed on this site.
